What they know about their work, barriers, and challenges faced by the community health workers while performing their multiple roles: mixed method study in India

Background: Accredited social health activist (ASHA) forms the backbone of National Health Mission (NHM) as they are important link between community and system, her services become very crucial for success NHM. They occupied by multiples roles, responsibilities expected to perform at optimum level. Aim was assess knowledge practice ASHA workers regarding their work explore barriers challenges faced them while performing multiple roles. Methods: An explanatory mixed-methods study conducted among having least one years experience Uttarakhand, India with 150 ASHAs quantitative 14 qualitative. Purposive sampling employed both approaches. Results: Quantitative approach shown that almost 91% about importance colostrum milk followed Anganwadi center (83%), immunization (79%), general (70%), birth preparedness (69%). The core thematic areas in qualitative result represented personal, psychological, economic, environmental factors. showed a level unhappiness distress related overload incentives. Conclusions: In general, adequate job responsibilities, there is more training needed maintaining records documentation process. There immediate need overcome facing, which can hamper performance
